Severe drought like conditions are still in effect across Long Island, Southern Connecticut, Queens, Bronx, Richmond, Westchester, Putnam, Orange and Rockland Counties.
For some unknown reason Spring and Summer weather continued throughout the month of October with rainfall effects of two to three inches. This weird weather lead to severe drought like conditions in the area since January of this year. Although recent rains have help to improve some of the drought like conditions, a sustained period of near normal precipitation is necessary to return to normal levels of water availability.
So what does this mean?
The impacts from drought like conditions means soil moisture is abnormal. Ground water in numerous wells across the areas are subjected to severe drought conditions due to the lack of rainfall. The rivers and streams across the areas are in need of a climate prediction watch for precipitation over the next 6 to 10 days. Be Weather Ready and Food Prepared this season.
As the U.S. Winter Outlook forecasts Climate Predictions this year, La Nina is expected to influence winter . Drier, warmer winters are expected in the southern U.S. and wetter, cooler conditions are expected in the Northern U.S. Winter hazards are expected and extreme cold and snowstorm events are underway this year. Expect arctic air blast and a nor'easter on the East coast. A nice winter coat is a good investment this year!
