As a National Weather Ambassador, you somethings have to get deep down and dirty cold! BRRRRRRRR!!!! The 2016 Blizzard of the century at 5:00 p.m. is currently KNEE HIGH and crotch high if you fall or must climb over a snow plow bank once the Newark Fire Department plows the roads. What a winter came late for the City of Newark where I live and sometimes record weather observations driven from my College accreditation out of Colorado Springs. Essex County has reported over 16.5 inches of SNOW at 1:00 pm this afternoon according to the FAA observer. What are the current temperatures? 26 degrees
Although the 1:00 pm reports states 16.5 inches, currently it is more like 30 inches outside with 1 to 2 inches falling by the hour. And the Blizzard is not over yet!!!! Visibility is really bad! If you are not on the Roads, Do Not Go Outside!!!
What to expect during a blizzard?
Floods Watches
Storm Surges
and Astronomical Tides
So when was the last nor-easter Blizzard? March 6, 1962. That was Ash Wednesday.....Why do citizens need to understand Nor'easters?
Because Nor'easters are cyclonic, similar to an Hurricane but the diameter reach is more coastline. Which means that more risk and damage occurs because Nor'easters are wider than Hurricanes when the winds hurl. Homes and property are more susceptible to damage as this storm intensifies. So how often does Nor'easters arrive? Every 5 years! This may not be the end of the storm, we still need to make it to April. Currently, Strong Gale Winds is blowing off the roofs in the City of Newark, NJ.
